Texan Cross Country Dominates Western Texas Invitational
Tallam Kipruto, who finished ninth at the NJCAA cross country championships last year, won the individual title completing the 10,000 meter course in a time of 30:32.60. Mitchell Driver (31:39.5) and Anthony Pequeno (32:14.1), both All-Americans at the 2008 NJCAA cross country championships, took the second and third spots, while Robert Castanon (32:51.2) finished fifth. Newcomer Tomilee Loyd (33:43.9) rounded out the scoring for the Texans with an eighth place finish. Marcelis Lynch (37:49.4) also completed the race, finishing in 17th position.
The Lady Texans finished second overall and were led by Lisa Forsberg. Forsberg completed the 5,000-meter course in 20:39.00, finishing second overall. Crystal Dickinson (21:27.0) crossed the line in fifth place, Kadian Dunkley (22:07.20) in eighth, followed by Shayla Contreras (22:58.00) in 11th, Paulina Wilson (23:02.90) completed the scoring with her 12thplace finish. Lorianne Pattee (23:13.20) also competed for SPC, finishing in 13th position.
SPC Texan and Lady Texan cross country will continue their season when they travel to Hobbs, N.M. on Saturday, September 12th.
