South Plains rodeo set to kickoff Spring season in Odessa

LEVELLAND—The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams will saddle up their horses and kickoff the 2017 Spring season when they travel to Odessa on Feb. 23 – Feb. 25 for their first rodeo since Oct. 29 at Texas Tech. The Lady Texans come into the weekend ranked fifth in the Southwest Region with 422.50 total points. The Texans sit at No. 10 with 435 total points to date and will look to move up the ladder with a strong showing in Odessa.

Texans, Lady Texans make season debut in Portales

The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan rodeo teams made their 2016 debut this weekend on the campus of Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico. The Lady Texans entered the season as the defending Western Junior College Athletic Conference champions after capturing their second conference crown a year ago. They would go on to finish the weekend with a final point tally of 55. Avery Gonzales went on to finish fourth overall in the women's breakaway roping competition, earning the Lady Texans 55 points, while Alex Odle finished sixth overall in barrel racing with a final score of 30 points.
