LEVELLAND, Texas – The South Plains College cheerleaders have scheduled a cheer camp July 28-30 for students entering second through sixth grades.  The camp will run daily from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and the participants will learn cheerleading fundamentals, chants, and a dance routine from the Texan Cheerleaders.

 

Cost of the camp is $60 and the deadline to register is July 24.  Each camper will receive a t-shirt upon arrival.

DETROIT, Mich. – Former Texan track and field star Dakarie McKinnie was tragically killed Friday, June 20, when he was gunned down after leaving his job at the Chrysler plant where he had recently been hired.  Dakarie was only 20 years old and was also taking classes to become a heating and cooling technician.

 

A standout athlete for the South Plains College Track and Field team from 2011-2013, McKinnie ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that set the NJCAA record of 3 minutes, 1.32 seconds on May 5, 2012.
