The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams concluded their fourth rodeo of the spring season over the weekend at the Howard College Rodeo in Big Spring. Chet Boren and Coy Surrett continued their dominance in the steer wrestling event as the duo captured the top two spots overall for the Texans. Boren entered the weekend ranked second in the region and added to that mark with a first place finish and final point total of 160. Boren used a long round time of 4.2 followed by a short round time of 3.9 in the finals to earn the top position. Surrett wasn't far behind with his long time of 4.8 followed by a short time of 4.1 racking up 100 points and a second place finish.

SNYDER—The South Plains College rodeo teams rode their way to another impressive outing over the weekend at the 2017 Western Texas College Rodeo. Zack Kirkpatrick kicked things off for the Texans with a fifth place finish in the tiedown roping event. The Crosbyton native used a long round time of 9.0 followed by a short round time of 11.1 to rack up 65 points. The Texans dominated the steer wrestling event as Chet Boren and Cameron McCarley took the top two spots overall. Boren placed first with his long time of 4.1 followed by a short round of 3.9 tallying 150 points. McCarley placed second with 110 points using a long round time of 5.4 and a short time of 3.8.

LEVELLAND—The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams will saddle up their horses and kickoff the 2017 Spring season when they travel to Odessa on Feb. 23 – Feb. 25 for their first rodeo since Oct. 29 at Texas Tech. The Lady Texans come into the weekend ranked fifth in the Southwest Region with 422.50 total points. The Texans sit at No. 10 with 435 total points to date and will look to move up the ladder with a strong showing in Odessa.

CLARENDON, Texas—The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan rodeo teams each finished inside the top 10 over the weekend at the Clarendon College rodeo. The Lady Texans finished seventh overall with 35 total team points, while the Texans took ninth with 95 total points. Sophomore Rainy Robinson finished seventh overall in the women's goat tying competition with 35 points. Alex Odle went on to place fourth overall in women's barrel racing, finishing the night with 65 individual points.

The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan rodeo teams were back in action over the weekend at the Vernon College rodeo in Vernon, Texas, which saw both teams place in the top five in their respected divisions. The Texans placed fourth overall in with 240 total points, with Kade Sherwood and Chet Boren being the two top point getters for South Plains. Tarleton State University placed first with 480 points, while New Mexico Junior College placed second with 340, and Western Texas placed third with 270.

The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan rodeo teams made their 2016 debut this weekend on the campus of Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico. The Lady Texans entered the season as the defending Western Junior College Athletic Conference champions after capturing their second conference crown a year ago. They would go on to finish the weekend with a final point tally of 55. Avery Gonzales went on to finish fourth overall in the women's breakaway roping competition, earning the Lady Texans 55 points, while Alex Odle finished sixth overall in barrel racing with a final score of 30 points.
