Anton Simms
Assistant Track and Field Coach - Hurdles
Anton Simms brings a strong background in research, athletics, and coaching to South Plains College. From 2019–2022, Simms worked as an Exercise Scientist and Research Coordinator with Exercising Nutritionally, LLC, where he conducted exercise physiology and biomechanical research and analysis for organizations and individual athletes.
A native of Illinois, Simms began his academic journey at North Central College before transferring to Northern Illinois University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2018. He went on to complete his Master of Science in Kinesiology at Texas Tech University in 2022 and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology with a concentration in biomechanics and human movement research.
As a student-athlete, Simms competed at North Central College for two and a half years in the 400m and hurdles. He has since translated his athletic experience into a diverse coaching career. His coaching resume includes serving as the hurdles coach for boy's track and field at Oswego High School (Spring 2018), assistant coach for women’s cross country at Northern Illinois University (Fall 2018), and hurdles/long sprints and cross country coach for Naperville Central High School (2020–2022). Most recently, he coached men’s and women’s track and field at Wayland Baptist University during the Fall 2023 season.
With a blend of scientific expertise, athletic experience, and coaching versatility, Simms is committed to developing athletes both on the track and through evidence-based training methods.
