Lady Texans and Texans Post Strong Marks and Masked Rider Open
South Plains College Track and Field delivered an impressive showing at the Masked Rider Open on March 26 in Lubbock, highlighted by multiple event wins and a growing list of national qualifying marks.
LUBBOCK, TX - Competing at Texas Tech University, the Texans and Lady Texans turned in a strong all-around performance against a deep field, continuing to build momentum as the outdoor season progresses.
On the women's side, Chrisshona Bargaineer placed 11th in the 100 meters (12.04), while Camio White (9th, 24.53) and Shahyna Coudriau (11th, 24.74) led the way in the 200 meters. Icela Swaby delivered a strong performance in the 800 meters with a fourth-place finish (2:18.93) and added a seventh-place finish in the 1500 meters.
The Lady Texans saw success in hurdles and field events, with Nour Rahou finishing third in the 400 hurdles (58.71) and Morgane Lenoir taking fifth (1:00.06). Olga Lapuzova secured a second-place finish in the pole vault (3.68m), while Leticia Ouaba placed second in the triple jump (12.39m) and eighth in the long jump.
In the throws, Suerena Alexander led the way with a third-place finish in the shot put (13.52m), followed by Kahllah Bailey (5th, 12.84m). Charlotte Domas added a third-place finish in the javelin (38.34m).
On the men's side, Lilian Caron-Douillard led off with a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters (10.55), while the 200 meters saw Omar James place ninth (20.92), followed by Kyle Lawrence (13th, 21.33) and Isaiah Gamble (14th, 21.38). Carlton Siwela delivered a standout performance in the 400 meters, finishing third with a time of 45.53, while Zion Miller added an eighth-place finish (46.44).
Distance events proved to be a major strength for South Plains. Yassine Bounasri captured first place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.20, while Joshem Sylvester placed fourth (1:52.40). In the 1500 meters, Abdirisak Saidgurhan took fifth (3:55.99), and Dennis Cheruiyot claimed another victory for the Texans in the 5000 meters (15:02.02).
In the field events, Titouan Dobo Bi led the way with a second-place finish in the javelin (69.71m), followed closely by Rayvohn Telesford in third (59.50m). Houston Stark and Logan Mennel tied strong performances in the high jump, finishing third and fourth respectively at 1.95m. Jules Courel highlighted the pole vault group with a fifth-place finish (5.44m).
Following the meet, the Texans have recorded 44 national qualifying marks, while the Lady Texans have totaled 31, showcasing the depth and competitiveness of both programs early in the outdoor season.
