Texans Take Runner-Up Finish at Thunderbird Open
he South Plains College men’s cross country team turned in a strong performance on Thursday, September 26, earning a second-place team finish at the Thunderbird Open hosted by New Mexico Junior College. The Texans scored 69 points overall, placing behind only the host team in a competitive field.
HOBBS, N.M. — The South Plains College men's cross country team turned in a strong performance on Thursday, September 26, earning a second-place team finish at the Thunderbird Open hosted by New Mexico Junior College. The Texans scored 69 points overall, placing behind only the host team in a competitive field.
Sophomore Dennis Cheruiyot once again led the way for South Plains, claiming the runner-up spot with a time of 24:15.60. He was closely followed by teammates Abdirisak Saidgurhan in 6th (24:43.40) and Ylies Mihoubi in 7th (24:51.60), giving the Texans three top-10 finishers.
Grayson Hastings finished 22nd (26:26.10), while Yassine Bournasri placed 33rd (27:47.30), Donovan Martinez 43rd (29:06.70), and Stefan Camejo 51st (33:47.30) to round out the SPC lineup.
The Texans will return to Hobbs for their next meet, competing at the NJCAA Region V Championships on Friday, October 25.
