Four members of the 2015-16 South Plains College men's basketball program will be taking their talents to the next level after signing with a four-year university in recent weeks.
The 2015-2016 Western Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference teams were released on Sunday, with four members of the South Plains College Texans earning All-Conference honors.
BROWNWOOD— Despite overcoming a 16-point first half deficit, the South Plains College Texans fell in overtime to Hill College 90-85 in the Region V tournament at the Brownwood Coliseum Wednesday afternoon. Not without controversy.
One game at a time. After finishing the regular season with a 21-8 record, and an 11-4 record in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, the South Plains College Texans will begin their journey through the postseason on March 2 when they travel to the Brownwood Coliseum in Brownwood, Texas for the NJCAA Region 5 basketball tournament.
With just a single game remaining on the 2016 conference schedule, the South Plains College Texans can earn a share of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference crown with a win on Thursday against Western Texas College in Snyder.
SNYDER— The South Plains College Texans fell to Western Texas College 98-90 on Thursday night in Snyder. The Texans' Jerron Love set a new career high with 26 points, as the 5-foot-11 freshman was 9-of-15 from the field and 6-of-9 from behind the arc. Deontae North went on to finish the contest with 18 points and five rebounds for South Plains, while Che Bob had 14 points and 11 boards.
CLARENDON— The South Plains College Texans rode Che Bob's 32-point, 15-rebound performance to a 98-67 victory over the Clarendon Bulldogs on Thursday night at the Bulldog Gymnasium. The Texans' Deontae North finished the game with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting and also hauled in 11 rebounds. Roberto Gallinat would chip in 17 points for South Plains, while Montell McRae had eight.
LEVELLAND— Find a way to win. The South Plains College Texans did just that in their final home game of the season, riding Deontae North's 20-point eight rebound performance to a 62-55 win over the Howard Hawks on Monday night at the Texan Dome.
ROSWELL— Three to go. The South Plains College Texans improved their record to 10-3 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference after routing the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos 81-64 in Roswell on Thursday night.
HOBBS– The South Plains College Texans picked up their ninth win in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference on Monday night, downing the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds 84-80 in Hobbs. Now 7-1 in their last eight conference games, the Texans' victory breaks a three-way tie with New Mexico (18-8,8-4) for first place in the WJCAC, with South Plains (18-7, 9-3) and Odessa College both sitting at nine wins with just four games remaining in the regular season.
LEVELLAND? This is a conference championship game. That was the message South Plains College head coach Steve Green relayed to his team prior to Thursday night's matchup with conference leader Odessa College.
LEVELLAND— The South Plains College Texans picked up their seventh win in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference on Monday night following a 77-72 victory over Frank Phillips at the Texan Dome.
MIDLAND—The South Plains College Texans fell to the Midland Chaparrals 70-62 on Thursday night in Midland.
LEVELLAND— The South Plains College Texans overcame a 15-point first half deficit and downed Western Texas College 83-76 to improve to 6-2 in the Western Junior Athletic Conference Monday night at the Texan Dome.
LEVELLAND— The South Plains College Texans picked up their third consecutive Western Junior College Athletic Conference victory after throttling Clarendon College 99-67 Monday night at the Texan Dome. Following a 10-0 run from the Bulldogs (13-9, 1-5) to open up the contest, the Texans battled back and went on a 9-4 run of their own to cut Clarendon's lead to 14-9 with 15:24 left in the first half. Justice Green, who finished with 19 points and went 6-for-11 from the floor, tied the game at 17 all after connecting on a 3-pointer from the right wing with 11 minutes on the scoreboard.
BIG SPRING— The South Plains College Texans improved to 4-2 in the WJCAC conference with a 74-71 road win against Howard on Thursday night in Big Spring. Jerron Love led the Texans in scoring for the second straight game as the 5-foot-10 freshman guard finished with 19 points and three assists in 31 minutes of play for the Texans. Deontae North shot 50 percent from the three-point line and knocked down all six free-throws attempted en route to a 15-point performance for South Plains.
