Texans Shine at Western Texas College Rodeo, Kirkpatrick Claims Goat Tying Title
South Plains College Rodeo turned in a strong performance this past weekend at the Western Texas College Rodeo in Snyder, highlighted by a championship finish in goat tying and multiple short go qualifications.
SNYDER, TX - The Texans and Lady Texans Rodeo teams competed March 26-28 in Snyder, Texas, putting together an impressive showing against a competitive field.
In goat tying, South Plains saw two athletes advance to the short go. Katie Knez qualified 10th with a time of 7.4, while Zaran Kirkpatrick entered the finals in second place with a strong 6.5 run. Kirkpatrick elevated her performance in the short go, posting a 6.3 to secure the event title with a combined average of 12.8.
Knez also delivered in the finals, recording a 6.6 in the short go to finish in a tie for sixth place with an average time of 14.0.
The Texans were also well represented in team roping, with three competitors advancing to the short go. Jantsen Trice and Cactus Barnes opened with a 5.6 run to sit second after the first go, while Trey Adams led the field with a 5.2.
The short go proved challenging for Trice and Barnes, who recorded a no score. Adams returned to post a 13.5 in the finals, finishing fourth overall with an average of 18.7.
South Plains will look to build on this momentum as they head to their next competition at the Howard College Rodeo in Big Spring, Texas, scheduled for April 9-11.
