Lady Texans drop Hard-Fought Road Contest to Monroe University, 71-67
In a battle that came down to the closing minutes, the South Plains College Lady Texans suffered their first loss of the season Monday, falling 71-67 to Monroe University. South Plains led the majority of the game before Monroe took the lead with 3:29 remaining in the fourth quarter, shifting the momentum late and holding on for the win.
HOBBS, N.M. - In a battle that came down to the closing minutes, the South Plains College Lady Texans suffered their first loss of the season Monday, falling 71-67 to Monroe University. South Plains led the majority of the game before Monroe took the lead with 3:29 remaining in the fourth quarter, shifting the momentum late and holding on for the win.
Despite the loss, the Lady Texans controlled several key areas of the game, most notably on the glass. South Plains out rebounded Monroe 51-36, including 15 offensive boards, and outshot the Mustangs from beyond the arc, hitting 30.4% from three compared to Monroe's 24.2%. However, 22 turnovers proved costly, giving Monroe the extra possessions needed to stage its late comeback.

- Isabel Joao - 13 points, 15 rebounds (4 offensive, 11 defensive)

South Plains received 12 points from the bench, with Milani Smith and Shrouq Amer each scoring 6. Dilangue, Angelina and Isabel paced the offense early, helping the Lady Texans maintain control through the first three quarters.
Monroe University Standouts
- Hellary De Los Santos - 17 points
- Fabiana Poindujour - 16 points
- Monroe's bench added 30 pints, providing the spark that helped fuel the late rally.
Even in defeat, the Lady Texans showed strong inside presence, solid three-point shooting, and defensive energy, but could not overcome the turnovers differential in the final stretch.
