Lady Texans face Phoenix Friday in home opener
Last year, the Lady Texans relied heavily upon guard Ashley Roberts to rack up the points. This season is a different story so far, as South Plains has five players averaging more than 10-points per game.
Newcomers TaSheena Moore and Alexius Dawn have led the way thus far with 14.3 and 11.7 points after three games. Stephanie Moore – an honorable mention all-conference selection a year ago – has averaged 11, while Sydney Hearn chips in with 10.3. Redshirt freshman and Levelland native Lindsey Lee has scored 10.
"I was really proud of our kids," the eighth-year Lady Texan head coach said. "Obviously it was a long road trip and they really came out and did not seem intimidated."
Wyatt likes the depth of her team and the fact several people can score.
"Nobody has to replace her 30 points," she said referring to Ashley Roberts, who now plays for the University of Texas. "I think we are going to get 10 or 12 from a lot of different people."
The Lady Texans do not know much about Friday's opponent as they have yet to play a game. They will, however, be able to scout Phoenix as the Texan Dome will be the site of a neutral court game Thursday between the Lady Bears and SPC's conference foe, Midland College.
Live stats for each game will be available on the South Plains College athletics website, www.spctexans.com.
