Lady Texans fall to Howard College
South Plains found themselves down 16-6 with 12:43 to go in the first half. Six unanswered SPC points cut the deficit to four before Howard stretched their lead to as many 13 and went to the half up 33-23 after Ashley Roberts nailed a three just before the end of the half.
It took much of the second half, but the Lady Texans battled back and 3:54 to go found themselves down by only five points, 53-48. That was as close as they would come, though, as Howard made another run in the final minutes to claim the conference opener for both schools by a score of 67-55.
Toi'Easha Cooper scored a game high 17 points and Kelsey Canavan recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead SPC.
The Lady Texans will return to action on Thursday, January 13 when they host the Midland College Lady Chaps at 5:45 p.m. within the friendly confines of the Texan Dome. McDonald's of Levelland is the sponsor of the game and tickets for the contest have been passed out to area schools. Students interested in attending the contest should visit the administration building of their respective district. At halftime, children 12 and under will be invited to participate in shooting free throws for chances to win coupons redeemable for a small order of fries at McDonald's of Levelland.
