13th-Ranked Hutchinson Can't Hang With Lady Texans
Seven minutes into the contest, the Lady Texans built up an eight point lead, 13-5. The Lady Texans and Lady Dragons would battle back and forth the remainder of the half before heading to the locker room with South Plains College leading by two points, 34-32.
The Lady Texans extended their lead to a game high of nine points when Lauren McKinneyconverted two free throw attempts with 11:30 to go in the game, making the score 49-40. However, every time SPC looked to put the game out of reach, the Lady Dragons would come up with some big shots and got to within four points on several occasions.
After Lady Dragon guard Emily Blakesly cut the lead to four points with 3:59 remaining, Parada answered with the last of her five three-point field goals to give SPC a 63-56 advantage.
Canavan answered two Hutch free throws with a field goal of her own, and with 29 seconds to go in the contest the SPC women found themselves comfortably ahead of the 13th-ranked Lady Dragons 67-61. When the final buzzer sounded, SPC knocked off another top-ranked team 69-63.
The victory is Coach Michelle Wyatt's 130th win as head coach and improves their record to 4-2 on the season.
