Lady Texans Knock off No. 6 Ranked Seward
SPC got off to a hot start by beginning the game on an 8-0 run. Seward fought back and eventually took the lead before the Lady Texans made a run that eventually sent them to the locker room up by nine points, 41-32.
Seward County committed 30 fouls in the game and the Lady Texans took advantage, knocking down 13-of-17 free throws in the first half and 28-of-41 for the game. Seward sentRaely Parada to the line a total of 13 times, many of which were down the stretch. Parada nailed 10-of-13 free throws for the game to help hold off a late Seward rally attempt.
Parada led the Lady Texans with 21 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field and also pulled down five rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Lauren McKinney added her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds, six of which were pulled down offensively. Sophomore Brittney Wilkerson scored a career high 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and also had six assists.
Kelsey Canavan added nine points and seven rebounds, but was limited to just over 17 minutes of play due to foul trouble.
McKinney, Parada, and Wilkerson each played the entire 40-minutes of the ballgame.
The Lady Texans will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. when they face NJCAA No. 13 ranked Hutchinson Community College. Hutchinson defeated Frank Phillips College 74-37 in an earlier game.
