SPC distance runners gunning for championships at NJCAA Half-Marathon
LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan cross country teams will conclude their 2013 fall season this weekend when they hit the roads at the NJCAA Half-Marathon Championships held on the Silver Comet Trail in Dallas, Ga. Saturday morning.
After finishing third at last weekend's NJCAA Cross Country Championships, the Texans look to be a contender again this weekend. Freshman Antibahs Kibiwott will look to lead the Texans along with Jose Martinez, Colton Hollis, Cordaryl Whitehead, and Marco Arias.
Kibiwott and Martinez earned All-American honors last week with top-15 finishes, while Hollis and Whitehead made the Coach's All-American team.
Last year's Lady Texan squad came up only three points shy of claiming a share of the Half-Marathon title in Levelland last year.
This year's team will consist of Desreen Montague, J'Cee Holmes, Kaitlyn Henderson,Maddie Kauffman, and Sarah Peterson, each of whom helped the SPC women to a fifth place finish at last week's cross country championships in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
The 13.1-mile race will begin at 8 a.m. for the women with the men following at 8:15 a.m.
