Kibiwott paces Texans with third place finish at Red Raider Open
Kibiwott could not sustain the feverish pace, but was able to hold on to a third place finish to pace the Texans for the second consecutive race, finishing the 8,000-meter course with a time of 25 minutes, 41.75 seconds.
Jose Martinez was South Plains' next competitor to cross the line and also posted a top 10 finish. Martinez was ninth overall in 26:49.59.
Colton Hollis (27:18.15), Cordaryl Whitehead (27:23.97), and Jacob Clark (28:02.00) rounded out the Texan team score of 81 points to finish fourth in the meet.
In the women's 5,000-meter race, J'Cee Holmes was the first Lady Texan to cross the line, finishing 31st overall and posting a time of 21:34.78. Kaitlyn Henderson (21:54.38) was not far behind in 37th.
The SPC women finished eighth in the team scoring with 215 points.
The SPC cross country teams will enjoy next weekend away from competition before traveling to Las Vegas, N.M. to compete in the New Mexico Highlands Invitational Sept. 28.
