LEVELLAND, Texas - The cross country regular season schedule has come and gone and the Texan and Lady Texan runners are now geared up for post-season competition, the first of which is the Region 5 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 29.

Both teams should fare well in Saturday's meet as the Texans are the lone Region 5 team ranked in the NJCAA top 10, coming in at No. 8, while the Lady Texans rank two spots behind Region 5 foe El Paso at No. 6.

SPC head track and cross country coach Chris Beene says he has geared his team's training to perform well at the Region 5 meet.

"Training changes a little bit as you get toward the finish. You do some things that are faster, we get on the track a little bit and there is more recovery between workouts," the eighth year coach recently told Tony Baker of ESPNSouthwest.com. "On the weekends we are resting a little bit more, so we are starting to give them their legs back to them and we are not racing every weekend so they have a chance to rest mentally."

The Region 5 cross country championships are hosted by Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. Once the Texans and Lady Texans put this meet behind them they will set their sights on adding another NJCAA Championship to their list of 25 when they travel to Hobbs, N.M. for the NJCAA cross country championships Saturday, November 12.
