LEVELLAND - Subway restaurant is once again sponsoring South Plains College's annual cross country meet to be held October 10. Subway provides financial assistance, cups, and even sends 'Sub Man' out to entertain the crowd.
"It's a pleasure to once again be part of such a terrific event," says James Nisbet, manager of Subway's Levelland location. "My kids participate in cross country and this particular event. Subway is a big promoter of exercise and health and really enjoys the opportunity to be part of this."
Check-in for the meet begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 9 and the first gun will be shot at 8:30 a.m. for the junior high boys and girls competition. Races will then be run every thirty minutes, with the college men's 8,000-meter race being the final competition at 11:30 a.m.
"South Plains College is very thankful for the support Subway has provided over the last several years," says SPC head cross country coach Chris Beene, "This is a great event for our cross country teams as well as the junior high and high school teams in the surrounding community and I am glad Subway continues to be part of it."
Anyone interested in attending the meet should come to the Texan Track and Field complex. The races will start on the east side of the facility near the cage where the hammer throw is contested during a track meet and will loop around the pond on the north side of the facility as well as a nearby cotton field.
Heading into the fourth meet of the season, the Texans are ranked seventh in the latest national polls and the Lady Texans third nationally. Both teams are coming off terrific performances this past weekend at the West Texas A&M Invitational October 1.
