South Plains College Rodeo Makes Statement at Season's First Rodeo
Harrel Tops Team Roping, Kirkpatrick Wins Women's All-Around
The first round of rodeo competition brought plenty of excitement, with our South Plains College rodeo athletes turning in strong performances across multiple event.
Zaran Kirkpatrick set the tone for the women's side, securing second place in goat tying and following up with a third-place finish in breakaway roping, showcasing her versatility and consistency. Teammates Katie Knez and McKenna Hipps also contributed points in goats, finishing sixth and tenth, respectively.
In the men's events, Thomas O'mara delivered a sharp run in steer wrestling to claim a fifth place, while Cactus Barnes battled in a tough calf roping field to earn ninth place.
Speed events brought more highlights as Sierra Telford clocked an impressive run in barrels, finishing fifth.
The team roping competition was a major bright spot. Trey Adams and his partner roped their way to a first-place finish, while Caden Harrel and his teammate were close behind in second, giving the Texans a dominant showing in the event.
In the short round, Kirkpatrick kept her momentum rolling, placing second in goat tying and fifth in breakaway roping. Her consistency across event paid off, as she clinched the coveted Women's All-Around title. Harrel also came up big, roping his way to a first-place finish in team roping, while Telford held strong in barrels to finish fourth in the average.
With multiple top finishes and an All-Around title, the Texans and Lady Texans are carrying plenty of momentum. They'll be back in action next weekend, September 25-27, at the Frank Phillips College Rodeo.
