South Plains Rolls Past Temple 93-80 to Advance in Region Tournament
Texans shoot 50% from the field and dominate off turnovers and bench production; will face Midland College in next round at Odessa College.
ODESSA, TX - The South Plains College Texans opened the Region Tournament with a strong performance, defeating Temple College 93–80 at Odessa College.
SPC carried a 38–33 lead into halftime before extending its advantage in the second half, outscoring Temple 55–47 to secure the win.
The Texans delivered an efficient offensive showing, shooting 50% from the field, 41% from three-point range, and 86% from the free throw line.
South Plains also took care of the basketball, finishing with 28 rebounds, 15 assists, and only 9 turnovers. Defensively, the Texans forced 16 Temple turnovers and converted those opportunities into 23 points.
Three Texans finished in double figures, led by Micah Bell, who scored 22 points while adding 5 assists and 1 rebound. Jaylen Colon contributed 17 points and 4 rebounds, while Zion Pipkin added 14 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds.
Inside scoring and bench production were key factors in the victory. SPC scored 34 points in the paint and received a strong lift from its bench, which contributed 39 points.
The game featured only two ties and one lead change, as South Plains maintained control for most of the night. The Texans' largest lead came with 20 seconds remaining when they stretched the margin to 13 points.
With the win, South Plains advances to face conference opponent Midland College at 5:00 PM at Odessa College in the next round of the Region Tournament.
