South Plains College delivered a strong response in its second meeting with Odessa College, controlling the tempo from start to finish in a 79–67 conference victory to move up the WJCAC standings.
LEVELLAND, TX - The South Plains College Texans took care of business Monday night at the Texan Dome, defeating the Odessa College Wranglers 79–67 in their second matchup of conference play. After falling to Odessa in the conference opener, SPC flipped the script with a composed, physical performance that kept the Texans in control throughout the contest.
Antallah Sandlin'el turned in a dominant outing, leading all scorers with 27 points while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double performance. Aliou Maiga was equally impactful on the glass, finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Keith Richard contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. Zion Pipkin orchestrated the offense, tallying 11 points and seven assists as the Texans dictated the pace from the opening tip.
The game featured just four ties and three lead changes, a testament to SPC's steady grip on momentum. South Plains pushed its largest lead to 13 points with just under seven minutes remaining, answering every Odessa run with timely baskets and defensive stops.
The Texans were efficient offensively, shooting 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range, and 71 percent from the free-throw line. Their physical presence inside proved decisive, as SPC dominated the boards with 44 total rebounds, limiting second-chance opportunities for the Wranglers.
With the win, South Plains College improves to 6–3 in WJCAC play, sitting third in the conference standings alongside Midland College, which holds the tiebreaker from the first meeting. Howard College currently leads the conference at 8–1.
The Texans will have a chance to make a major move in the standings when they host Midland College on Monday, February 9th, at the Texan Dome, with second place in the WJCAC up for grabs.
