Second-Half Surge Lifts No. 13 Texans Past Clarendon, 81-57
The No. 13 South Plains College Texans closed out the first round of WJCAC conference play with a dominant 81–57 victory over Clarendon College on Monday night at the Texan Dome.
LEVELLAND, TX — The No. 13 South Plains College Texans closed out the first round of WJCAC conference play in dominant fashion, defeating Clarendon College 81–57 on Monday night at the Texan Dome.
South Plains carried a 39–31 lead into halftime before breaking the game open in the second half. The Texans went on a decisive 21–0 run, outscoring the Bulldogs 42–26 after the break to pull away for the convincing victory.
Zion Pipkin led SPC with 17 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Deion Ware followed with 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Jaylen Colon added 12 points, three rebounds, and one assist.
The Texans were efficient offensively, shooting 50% from the field, 39% from three-point range, and 61% from the free-throw line. Defensive pressure played a major role as SPC forced 23 Clarendon turnovers, converting them into 28 points.
South Plains' depth proved to be a key factor, with the Texans' bench contributing 51 points. SPC's largest lead of the night reached 26 points with 1:43 remaining.
With the win, the Texans improve to 16–5 overall and 5–3 in conference play, currently sitting fourth in the WJCAC standings. New Mexico Junior College and Midland College also finished the first round at 5–3, holding tiebreakers over SPC.
The Texans will return to action Thursday, February 5th, when they host Odessa College at the Texan Dome, looking to avenge a 97–85 loss in the conference opener at Odessa.
