The No. 11 South Plains College Texans battled back from a slow finish in the first half to force overtime, but ultimately came up short against No. 2 Snow College, falling 88-83 on day one of the Texan Classic.
LEVELLAND, TX - The No. 11 South Plains College Texans battled back from a slow finish in the first half to force overtime, but ultimately came up short against No. 2 Snow College, falling 88-83 on day one of the Texan Classic.
South Plains came out firing, putting up 18 quick points with 11 minutes left in the opening half. But the offense cooled, and Snow College capitalized, taking a 38-28 lead into the break at half.
The Texans responded with energy in the second half. Trailing by double digits, SPC mounted a surge with nine minutes remaining, outscoring the Badgers 48-38 in the period. Their defensive pressure and improved shooting helped them claw back to tie the game at 76 and force overtime.
South Plains struck first in the extra period with two quick points, but Snow answered with poise. The Badgers controlled the final minutes, outscoring the Texans 12-7 in overtime to secure the 88-83 victory.
Rebounding proved to be a key difference. Snow College dominated the glass with 41 rebounds, including 15 offensive boards that turned into 18 second-chance points. South Plains managed 12 second-chance points of their own. The Texans, however, were strong from beyond the arc, shooting an impressive 50 percent from three-point range.
Zion Pipkin led the charge for SPC with 22 points. Antallah Sandlin'el added 16, and Micah Bell provided a spark off the bench with 11 points in his first game back since an ankle injury
The Texans return to action tomorrow at 7:00 p.m., hosting Hill College at the Texan Dome for day two of the Texan Classic.
