The South Plains College Texans showcased their depth and firepower Thursday night, knocking off Dallas North Lake 88-71 at the Texan Dome and improving to 4-1 on the season.
LEVELLAND, TX - The South Plains College Texans showcased their depth and firepower Thursday night, knocking off Dallas North Lake 88-71 at the Texan Dome and improving to 4-1 on the season.
Sophomore guard Yohandry Ortiz paced the Texans with a standout 25-point performance, shooting 8-16 from the field, 2-6 from beyond the arc, and 7-11 from the free-throw line. Ortiz steady scoring gave South Plains control from the opening minutes.
The Texans' bench played a massive role in the victory, pouring in 43 of the team's 88 points. Keith Richard led the scoring unit with an efficient 19 points, while Jaylen Colon added 11 more to help keep the offensive rhythm flowing.
While Aliou Maiga contributed just 2 points, his impact was felt everywhere else on the floor. Maiga dominated the glass with 11 rebounds - four offensive, seven defensive - and anchored the defense with 4 blocks setting the tone physically in the paint.
South Plains opened its largest lead of the night - 24 points - with 14:43 remaining in the second half, maintaining firm control down the stretch.
The Texans return home action this weekend as they host Temple College on Saturday, November 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Texan Dome.
South Plains looks to carry the momentum forward as early-season play continues.
