LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men’s and women’s basketball teams will close out the regular season Thursday when they travel to Odessa for a pair of WJCAC matchups from the OC Sports Center.

LEVELLAND — Sophomore Deon Barrett recorded a career-high 22 points, five steals, and four assists as the No. 10-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team pummeled Clarendon College 107-72 Monday in their final home game of the year at the Texan Dome.

LEVELLAND — For the second consecutive week, South Plains sophomore forward Gaige Prim has been named the Region V Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Leading the Texans with 21.6 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, Prim has scored in double figures in every game this season and has recorded 17 double-doubles on the year. Prim netted 24 points and 13 rebounds on Jan. 28 against Odessa, which he followed up with a 17 point, 15 rebound performance in the Texans’ 72-58 win over Midland on Jan. 31.

LEVELLAND — Gaige Prim led all scorers with 28 points and eight rebounds as No. 5 South Plains blasted Frank Phillips College 111-51 Monday night at the Texan Dome to improve to 19-3 on the year and 8-2 in the WJCAC. South Plains shot a season-high 68.3 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from behind the arc as five players netted double figures and 12 players scored in the contest.

LEVELLAND — The top-ranked South Plains College men’s basketball team fell to No. 15 Odessa College 65-64 in overtime Monday at the Texan Dome after erasing a six-point deficit in the final seconds of regulation. Trailing 56-50 with under a minute left, South Plains’ Koray Gilbert connected from the perimeter and trimmed Odessa’s lead to three with 32 ticks to play. Following a foul on the Texans’ Jonah Antonio, James Reese dropped in a pair of free throws that put the Wranglers up 58-53 with 24 seconds to play.

The Western Junior College Athletic Conference has announced the All-Academic Team for the Fall 2018 semester, with 36 athletes from South Plains College earning academic honors. The WJCAC All-Academic Team is an inclusive honor for all sports, recognizing student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.25 (2nd team) to a 3.64 – 4.0 (1st team). SNYDER — The top-ranked South Plains College men’s basketball team shot a season-high 60 percent from the field and knocked down 11 3s en route to an 89-66 conference road win over Western Texas College Thursday at Invenergy Court.

LEVELLAND — Following victories over New Mexico Junior College on Monday, the South Plains College men's and women's basketball teams will be on the road Thursday as they travel to Snyder to take on Western Texas College in WJCAC play.

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men’s basketball team is back on top of the NJCAA Div. I men’s basketball poll, earning a No. 1 national ranking on Tuesday. Previously ranked second, South Plains picked up wins over Howard and New Mexico Military last week and are currently 16-1 on the year and 5-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference. The Texans defeated New Mexico Junior College 77-50 on Monday at the Texan Dome and will travel to Snyder on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. tip against Western Texas College, both games which will be factored into next week’s poll which will be released at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The Lady Texans held strong at No. 5 in the NJCAA Div. I women’s basketball national poll after defeating Howard 72-49 on Jan. 7 at the Texan Dome. South Plains picked up its biggest win of the season on Monday, defeating current No. 3 New Mexico Junior College 66-51 at home. Should the Lady Texans win on Thursday against Western Texas College at 5:45 p.m. in Snyder, they will put themselves in prime contention to climb the national rankings in next week’s poll, which is also slated to be released on Jan. 22.
