Texans cruise to victory over Monterrey

ODESSA – The South Plains College Texans scored 30 points before Monterrey Tech was able to convert a field goal and never looked back as they moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 95-33 victory Saturday at the OC Sports Center.

Up 18-0 early in the first half, Texan coach Steve Green removed his starters from the game, most of who never returned.

Freshman J.R. Owens scored a game high 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. Roderick Lawrence made 6-of-7 shots to finish the game with 15.

The Texans return to the court Tuesday, November 6 when they face Western Nebraska College in their first home game at the Texan Dome. Game time is schedule for 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live over the internet at www.spctexans.com.

Western Nebraska finished with a record of 26-7 a year ago, falling to Casper College in the Region 9 Championship game.
