Texans blast Artichokes by 28

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The South Plains College Texans completed the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 93-65 rout of the Scottsdale College Fighting Artichokes Friday night. With the win, the Texans (15-0) will enter Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) play undefeated.

Sophomore Stanton Kidd recorded 10 points and nine rebounds by halftime and would go on to have a huge game, finishing with 16 points and 15 rebounds while playing sparingly in the second half. Kidd's big rebounding night came mostly on the offensive end where he pulled down nine.

Deshaunt Walker led all scorers with a game high 17 points.Malcolm Miller and Marshall Henderson each chipped in with 10 apiece while Yanick Moreira added seven points and 10 boards.

Point guard Devonte Smith dished out eight assists while also recording seven rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Greg Gainey made 4-of-4 shots and finished the game with nine points.

The Texans overwhelmed the Artichokes, winning the rebounding battle by 20 and making 50-percent of their shots compared to Scottsdale's 30-percent.

South Plains will begin WJCAC conference play Monday, January 16 when they travel to Midland College. On Thursday, January 19, the Texans will play their first conference home game against No. 15 ranked Odessa College.
