Texans Squeak By Lon Morris 65-63
Led by two early three point baskets by Bo Ingram, the Texans jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first three minutes of the contest, 14-4. Lon Morris countered with a 6-0 run to make the score 14-10 with 15 minutes remaining in the half.
SPC and Lon Morris played fairly evenly over the next few minutes, but with 11 minutes and 20 seconds to go in the half the Texans were able to increase their lead to a game high 13 points when they surged ahead with a 7-0 scoring run to take a 29-16 lead and would eventually go to the locker room up by seven points, 40-33.
The Texans would see their final double digit lead at the 16:55 mark when Josh Orta converted a two point bucket, making it a 47-37 ballgame. Over the next ten minutes Lon Morris would outscore the Texans 22-11 and would take their first lead with 5 minutes, 18 seconds to go in the ball game, 59-58.
After Winston Graham's two point basket inside the paint gave the Texans a 60-59 lead, Lon Morris took their final lead of the game, 61-60, with 4:45 remaining on the clock. Myles Walker then converted a three point play to put the Texans up by two.
Lon Morris made it interesting when they tied the ballgame, 63-63, with only 37 seconds remaining, but two converted free throws by Myles Walker and then a steal by Tramar Sutherland with only five seconds remaining sealed the deal and the Texans escaped with a 65-63 victory.
The Texans were led by Myles Walker, who overcame some foul trouble and finished with a team high 15 points and two blocked shots. Bo Ingram scored 13 points and added seven rebounds, while Kenny Brown also scored in double figures with 10 points and also had seven rebounds. Josh Orta played the entire game and finished with nine points.
The Texan Classic continues tomorrow, Saturday, November 14 at 12 p.m. when the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos face Lon Morris and will conclude after SPC squares off with Lubbock Christian University's JV squad at 2 p.m.
