LISA RISINGER – INDUCTED 2013
One of the pioneering stars of Lady Texan basketball, Lisa Risinger left a lasting mark on South Plains College during her standout seasons in 1975–76 and 1976–77. A dynamic and reliable force on the court, Risinger etched her name into program history by becoming SPC’s first-ever women’s basketball All-American following her sophomore campaign.
Her All-American season was one for the record books. Risinger guided the Lady Texans to a 27–4 record, capturing both the Western Junior College Athletic Conference and Region 5 championships, and leading the team to a fifth-place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament. By the end of her SPC career, she had earned All-Conference and All-Region honors twice and amassed 876 points and 389 rebounds—numbers that helped set the foundation for generations of Lady Texan athletes to follow.
Risinger continued her excellence at North Texas State University, where she quickly became a cornerstone of the Mean Green program. From 1977–79, she averaged 18.4 points per game—a mark that still stood atop the Mean Green record book entering the 2012–13 season. Despite playing only two years at North Texas, she ranked eighth all-time in scoring (1,101 points), seventh in field goals made (457), and sixth in career field-goal percentage (47%). In recognition of her extraordinary impact, Risinger became the first female athlete inducted into the University of North Texas Hall of Fame in 1992.
In 1994, as South Plains College celebrated the 20th anniversary of women’s basketball, Lisa Risinger was inducted into the Texan Hall of Fame—an honor befitting one of the program’s earliest and most influential stars. Her legacy remains a testament to excellence, leadership, and trailblazing achievement.
