LYNDON HARDIN – INDUCTED 2007 - WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Lyndon Hardin spent 22 seasons as the head women’s basketball coach at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, where he established the Lady Texans as one of the premier junior college programs in the nation. During his tenure, Hardin compiled an impressive 456–222 record (.673), led SPC to 14 Region V Tournament appearances, and guided the Lady Texans to two NJCAA National Tournament berths.

A four-time WJCAC Coach of the Year, Hardin was also honored as the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Junior College Coach of the Year in 1992. His ability to develop talent became nationally recognized, as he coached several standout athletes—most notably Sheryl Swoopes, who played for SPC from 1989–1991. Swoopes earned All-American honors under Hardin before transferring to Texas Tech, where she led the Lady Raiders to the 1993 NCAA National Championship. She went on to a legendary professional career, guiding the Houston Comets to four consecutive WNBA titles from 1997–2000, earning multiple WNBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards, and winning three Olympic gold medals.

Hardin also coached future Texas Tech and SPC standouts Angie Braziel and Aleah Johnson, both of whom continued the Lady Texans’ tradition of excellence at the Division I level.

Through his leadership, commitment to player development, and consistent success, Lyndon Hardin left a lasting legacy at South Plains College and within NJCAA women’s basketball.
