Mask caps year with strong showing at College National Finals Rodeo

LEVELLAND — South Plains College was once again represented at the College National Finals Rodeo as Emery Mask competed against the countries best barrel racers at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming.

Qualifying for the CNFR after finishing third in the Southwest Region, Mask was one of nearly 400 athletes from 11 regions competing for national gold. Mask would finish the year as one of the top barrel racers in the nation, finishing 34th overall thanks to a pair of strong runs to cap off the year.

In her first go, Mask turned in a time of 20.50 but followed up with a 14.23 in the second go, and a 14.87 in the third go to finish with a 49.60 average. Mask's second-round time of 14.23 was the eighth fastest time overall. Mask advanced to Casper after racking up 495 points in the region standings, leading the Lady Texans to a third-place team finish in the region and the Western Junior College Athletic Conference title.
