INA, Ill. – The NJCAA fourth-ranked Lady Texan and No. 13-ranked Texan cross country teams will be competing at the NJCAA national cross country championships Saturday in Ina, Ill.

The SPC women will toe the line for the 5,000-meter run at 10 a.m., with the men following at 10:45 a.m. in an 8,000-meter race.

Last year, SPC claimed both individual crowns behind the performances of former standouts Natoya Goule, now competing for LSU, and Kemoy Campbell, now running for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Lady Texans finished fourth overall in 2011, while the men settled for 11th.

Both look to improve upon those performances Saturday.

Darroneshia Lott is a strong contender to win the women's race and is complemented byDesreen Montague and Katya Miroshnikova, both of whom are projected to compete for all-American status.

Michaela Johnson, Sarah Peterson, and Maddie Kauffman must fill in the fourth and fifth spots for the Lady Texans to pull of an upset and add another championship trophy to their collection.

The men, meanwhile, have no clear front-runner and will look to compete well as a team pack to pull off another top 10 finish.

Upon completion of the NJCAA cross country championships, the Texans and Lady Texans will close out their season when they host the NJCAA Half-Marathon Championships Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Mallet Event Center.  In conjunction with the event, South Plains is also hosting fun runs of 10,000-meters, as well as 1- and 2-mile runs.  More information for the event can be found at www.spctexans.com.
