LEVELLAND - The South Plains College cross country teams concluded the first of two consecutive home meets with the running of the SPC Cross Country Festival Saturday morning. The meet consisted of eight races ranging from junior high, junior varsity, varsity, and collegiate competitions.
Sophomore Darroneshia Lott once again led the women, this time with a third place finish and a time of 18 minutes, 23.93 seconds. Desreen Montague and Ekaterina Miroshnikovajoined her in the top 15. Montague crossed the line with a time of 19:20.27 in 14th and Miroshnikova (19:21.53) was just behind in 15th.
Sarah Peterson (19:30.91) and Maddie Kauffman (19:41.92) rounded out the team scoring finishing 20th and 23rd overall.
Michaela Johnson and Brittany Letts also competed for the Lady Texans.
The SPC women finished third in the team standings with 74 points.
This week the SPC Texans were led by Cordaryl Whitehead. Whitehead's time of 26:02.79 was a season best by more than two minutes and was good for 26th place overall.
Whitehead was followed closely by Brandon Bernal (26:12.81) and Anderson Charles(26:34.57) who were 28th and 33rd, respectively.
Marco Arias (26:57.28) and Michael Waller (27:00.03) were South Plains' fourth and fifth team finishers with 37th and 39th place finishes.
Eladio Perez, Anthonio Mascoll, Jonathan Harrold, Zach Daniel, Kin Scott, and Braydon Villarreal also competed for the Texans who finished sixth in the team standings with 138 points.
The Texans will compete on the same course Oct. 13 when they host the SPC Open. Next week's meet will also feature junior high, junior varsity and varsity boys and girls competition in addition to the collegiate men's and women's races and will follow the same schedule with the junior high girls beginning at 8:30 a.m.
