LEVELLAND, Texas - SPC head cross country coach Chris Beene has not raced his teams since the South Plains/Subway Invitational on October 9th, but he feels the extra work, and rest, has his teams prepared to play host of the Region 5 cross country championships this weekend.

"We did a lot of strength work the next two weeks after our home meet on October 9th," Beene explained. "This past week we have decreased the workload and taken advantage of having some time to get their legs rested up."

Beene feels the work, combined with the rest of the past week, should lead to great individual and team performances.

The Texans enter the regional championship weekend with a No. 3 ranking in the latest NJCAA polls, while the Lady Texans sit at No. 4, making both teams the favorite to claim regional titles.

The Lady Texans will toe the line at 10 a.m. and the Texans will race immediately following the women at 10:45 a.m. Anyone interested in attending the meet should come to the Texan Track and Field complex. The races will start on the east side of the facility near the cage where the hammer throw is contested during a track meet and will loop around the pond on the north side of the facility as well as a nearby cotton field.
