SPC Cross Country Competes Well at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK - The South Plains College cross country teams were back in action on Friday, September 18 when they competed at the Texas Tech Open held at Meadowbrook Golf Course. This meet was by far the most competition the Texans and Lady Texans have seen this season and they were up to the challenge with a third place team finish for the Lady Texans and a second place finish for the Texans.

The gun sounded for the women's race at 5:30 p.m. and for the third week in a row Lisa Forsberg led the women's team, this time with an eighth place finish. Forsberg completed the 5,000-meter run in a time of 19:33.96. Crystal Dickinson and Kadian Dunkley finished 22ndand 23rd, respectively, as Dickinson crossed the line in a time of 20:50.11 and Dunkley in 20:53.58. Shayla Contreras and Paulina Wilson completed the scoring for the Lady Texans when they finished in 30th and 41st positions. As a team the Lady Texans finished with 98 points and finished third overall out of the 12 schools that competed.

Also competing for the Lady Texans were Lorianne Pattee and Shakeeri Cole. Pattee crossed the line in 56th place overall and Cole was 66th.

The Texans, led by Tallam Kipruto, put three runners in the top 20 on their way to a second place finish out of the 12 competing schools.

Kipruto finished third overall and recorded a time of 25:20.66. Mitchell Driver (26:25.63) crossed the line in 12th place and Anthony Pequeno (26:49.66) finished 18th. Robert Castanon and Tomilee Lloyd completed the scoring, finishing 28th and 35th. Marcelis Lynch also competed and finished 73rd overall.

The Texans and Lady Texans will take two weeks off before hosting the South Plains College Invitational on Saturday, October 10.
