SPC Men Win Title at Tech

LUBBOCK - The South Plains College men's cross country team ran to the championship at the Red Raider Invitational hosted by Texas Tech University Friday in Lubbock.

The SPC men won the team title with 30 points, while Texas Tech was second with 63.
Fred Samoei led SPC with a second-place finish in the 8K race with a time of 24:43.05. Tallam Kipruto was sixth (25:06.43) and Anthony Pequeno was 10th (26:03.23).

Also for South Plains, Mitchell Driver finished 11th (26:22.31), Javier Perez was 12th (26:23.46), Cole Hoffman was 26th (27:17.83), Robert Castanon was 27th (27:21.98), Blake Rothbard was 55th (28:55.49) and Derek Brest was 66th (29:21.82).

In the women's team standings, South Plains placed fifth with 139 points. Texas Tech won the event with 25 points.

Gladys Chumba was the top SPC runner with a 10th place finish in a time of 19:40.62. Former SPC runner and current Tech standout Lillian Badaru won her Red Raider debut with a time of 17:40.16.

Also for SPC, Meagan Willingham was 23rd (20:36.30), Lorianne Pattee was 33rd (21:37.25), Shayla Contreras was 36th (22:03.92) and Tylene Green was 66th (24:28.07).
