Matt Williams is in his fourth season as an assistant coach under Hall of Fame coach Steve Green.
During his first season, Williams made an immediate impact as he helped guide the Texans to the Region V tournament crown and the 2018 NJCAA Men's Basketball National Championship. In his second season, Williams helped lead the Texans to a 30-5 record and the Region 5 title, as the Texans would eventually go on to advance to the NJCAA Final Four for the third time in four years. Matt recruited five players who signed with Div. I universities including Gaige Prim, who was the Region 5 player of the Year and an NJCAA first-team All American.
Williams came to South Plains from Georgia Highlands College where he was an assistant coach for the past four years. In his final three seasons, Williams helped the Chargers to a 96-11 record and three consecutive GCAA championships. Williams helped the Chargers reach the NJCAA National Tournament three times, including back-to-back Final Four appearances and one berth in the Sweet 16.
Williams also helped guide the Chargers to 36 consecutive conference wins and a No. 2 national ranking in 2016 and 2017. While at GHC, Williams recruited two All-Americans including First Team All-American Kyvon Davenport who signed with Memphis University. During his tenure, Williams recruited multiple players who signed with Div. I universities, including five in his final season with the Chargers.
Williams is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business, before moving on to Concordia University at Irvine where he received a Master's degree in Athletic Administration.
