SPC cross country teams to compete at Region V Championships Saturday in Hobbs

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's cross country teams are set to take to the course on Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Region V Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico at Harry McAdams Park.

Action will get underway with the men's 8k at 10:30 a.m. MST, followed by the women's race at 11:15. Results will be available at spctexans.com.

In their previous outing on Oct. 14 at the ASU Blue and Gold Classic in San Angelo, sophomore All-American Mehdi Yanouri led the way for the Texans, placing ninth overall in a time of 26:48.2 in the men's 8k. Freshman Christian Francisco turned in a time of 28:36.2, a new personal best, and placed 14th overall.

Jeniel Jones was the first runner across the line for the Lady Texans in the women's 6k, placing 17th with a time of 26:13.0. Freshman Esmeralda Espinoza posted a time of 26:21.7, placing 18th overall.

Following the meet, South Plains College will be back in action on Nov. 13 at the 2021 NJCAA Div. I Cross Country National Championships in Richmond, Virginia.
