LEVELLAND — The Western Junior College Athletic Conference has set protocol for the upcoming men's and women's basketball seasons as the Texans and Lady Texans are slated to tip-off the season next week.
The Texans, who finished second in conference play and second at the Region V tournament a year ago will step on the hardwood for the first time on their home court at noon on Jan. 20 against Strength 'N Motion Academy. South Plains will be on the road Jan. 24-26 at the Juco Elite 8 Tournament on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma, followed by a matchup with Collin County Community College at noon on Jan. 31 at Collin County. The Texans will return home to begin conference play as they host Howard College on Monday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome. South Plains will be on the road against Western Texas College on Feb. 11 in Snyder before returning home for a matchup with Clarendon College on Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dome. Capturing the WJCAC and Region V titles last season, the Lady Texans will begin a new era under first-year head coach Ara Baten, who comes to SPC after 13 seasons heading up the Odessa College women's basketball program. The Lady Texans will begin the season on the road against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College on Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with Connors State College on Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. Both games will stream live at spctexans.com.
The Lady Texans will then head to Trinity Valley Community College on Jan. 27 for a 5:30 p.m. contest, followed by a matchup with Kilgore College In Kilgore at 5 p.m. on Jan. 28. The Lady Texans will make their home debut as they dive into conference play against Midland College on Feb. 1 at 5:45 p.m. at the Dome. Fans will be allowed to attend games this season as the WJCAC has set a 25% capacity limit for home teams. Fans will be asked to socially distance themselves and everyone inside the Dome will be required to wear a mask at all times.
