LEVELLAND — The fifth-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team is set to return to the hardwood this weekend when they travel to Plano for the Collin County Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 29-30.
The Texans will square off with Collin County at 7 p.m. on Friday before taking on Hill College at 3 p.m. on Saturday as they bring a 5-2 mark into the weekend. The tournament will stream live at spctexans.com and can be accessed by clicking on the "Watch Texans" tab at the top of the homepage.
Following the weekend trip, South Plains will be back on the road Dec. 4 for their conference opener against Howard College at 7:30 p.m. in Big Spring, before returning home to take on Western Texas College on Dec. 7 at 3:45 p.m. at the Texan Dome.
Averaging 81.6 points per game, the Texans look to get back to their winning ways after falling to Lamar Community College 82-79 Tuesday in overtime at the Dome. Freshman Rivaldo Soares leads the Texans on the offensive end as the 6-foot-6 guard from Boston is averaging 15.6 points per game while shooting over 52 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from long distance.
Freshman guard Benjamin Bayela knocked down a season-high five 3s against the Lopes on Tuesday and is averaging 10.7 points per game and shooting a 41.4 percent clip from the hardwood this season. Sophomore guard Junior Farquhar is also averaging double digits with 10.6 points and a team-high 3.7 points per game on the year.
