LEVELLAND — The ninth-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team is set to host Lamar Community College on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome in their final game before the Thanksgiving holiday.
The game will stream live at spctexans.com and can be heard on KLVT Radio Levelland with Michael Wiiest calling the courtside action with pregame slated for 6:45 p.m.
Following Tuesday's matchup, South Plains will be back on the road in Plano Nov. 29-30 at the Collin County Thanksgiving Classic. The Texans will take on Collin County on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. tip against Hill College. Both games will stream live at spctexans.com.
The Texans bring a 5-1 record into the contest after splitting two games at the Texan Classic Nov. 15-16 in Levelland. The Texans fell to No. 13 Panola 85-84 in overtime on Nov. 15, before bouncing back with a 99-49 win over Coastal Bend College.
Averaging 82 points per game on the season, South Plains is led by freshman Rivaldo Soares, a 6-foot-7 guard from Boston who leads the team in scoring with 16.7 points per game, scoring in double figures each game this season and is shooting over 55 percent from the field on the year. Philmon Gebrewhit comes in averaging 10.3 points per game, shooting 39.6 percent from the floor and scored a season-high 17 points against the Cougars in their previous outing.
Lamar brings a 7-5 record into Tuesday night and has won seven of their last eight, most recently, an 87-81 victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College on Nov. 22. Averaging just over 76 points per game, the Antelopes are led by freshman center Peter Turay who leads Lamar with 13.8 points and 5.6 boards per game. Sophomore Blayton Williams is also averaging double figures on the offensive end with 11.2 points per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the floor.
