LEVELLAND — Opening the season with a pair of wins a week ago including a 70-55 drumming of No. 15 Navarro in the season opener, the eighth-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team returns to the court Nov. 8-9 in Plano at the Texas East vs. West Challenge.
South Plains will square off with Trinity Valley at 2 p.m. on Friday on the campus of Collin County Community College before a 10 a.m. matchup with Lamar State College-Port Arthur on Saturday. Both games will stream live at spctexans.com.
South Plains routed Missouri State University-West Plains on Nov. 2 as the Texans averaged 84 points per game and shot 51 percent from the floor in their first two outings. Philmon Gebrewhit posted 13 points and five boards against Navarro while Rivaldo Soares provided 13 points, five boards and a pair of assist as the Texans shot a 44.7 percent clip from the field and were 10 of 23 from the 3-point line.
Junior Farquhar tallied 21 points in the Texans' 98-79 win over the Grizzlies, dropping in 6 of 11 shots from the floor and was a perfect 9 of 9 from the charity stripe. Soares chipped in 17 points, six rebounds, and two assists as the Texans shot over 56 percent from the hardwood and 36.8 percent from long range.
The Texans will take the court against a familiar foe Friday afternoon, a rematch of last season's Sweet 16 matchup with Trinity Valley at the NJCAA Men's Basketball National Tournament which saw South Plains defeat the Cardinals 82-75 to advance to the Elite Eight.
Following the weekend the Texans will make their home debut against Panola College on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Dome followed by a matchup with Coastal Bend College at 2 p.m. on Nov. 16.
