LEVELLAND — Following a 2-0 start to the season, the second-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team will host the Lady Texan Classic Nov. 7-9 at the Texan Dome with the Lady Texans taking on Lamar Community College on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. to open the weekend.
South Plains will then take on Northwest Kansas Technical College at 1 p.m. on Saturday with both games streaming live at spctexans.com, and can be heard on KLVT Radio Levelland with Michael Wiiest calling the courtside action.
The Lady Texans pounded out a pair of wins to open the year last weekend, thumping Coastal Bend College 121-56 in the season opener at the Dome followed by a 78-41 in over Northwest Kansas Technical College on Sunday. South Plains combined for 99.5 points in the first two games, shooting 51 percent from the floor and averaged 53.5 boards per game.
Sophomore Oceane Robin recorded a career-high 21 points against the Lady Cougars, bucketing 9 of 13 shots from the field and dished out four assists. Ruth Koang led all scorers with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and three blocked shots as the Lady Texans shot over 57 percent from the floor.
Ashala Moseberry led the Lady Texans with 15 points, six boards and three steals against the Lady Mavericks, netting 5 of 9 shots from the hardwood over 22 minutes. LSU commit Sarah Shematsi dropped in 10 points and Koang netted eight as the Lady Texans posted a 42.9 percent shooting clip from the field and were 7 of 18 from the 3-point line.
Following the weekend the Lady Texans will make their first road trip of the year Nov. 15-16 when they travel to Hobbs for the New Mexico Junior College Classic. South Plains will matchup with Salt Lake Community College on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. before squaring off with Grayson College on Nov. 16 at 5 p.m.
