Derrick Boggs and Abrian Gonzales win 2019 Dennis Patton Texan Club Scramble

South Plains College along with the Levelland Country Club hosted the 53rd annual Dennis Patton Texan Club Scramble over the weekend, which benefits the South Plains College athletic department and its student-athletes.

Players and donors from across the region made the journey to Levelland to compete alongside each other in two rounds of competitive action.

South Plains College hosted the tournament in honor of Dennis Patton, a former SPC basketball standout and Texan Club Hall of Fame 1993 inductee. Patton was a co-captain of the 1965-66 squad that went on to win South Plains its first ever WJCAC conference title after amassing a 21-11 record. Patton was named to the all-conference and all-region teams for his efforts.

Following his illustrious career as an athlete, Patton went on to become the head coach of the Texans in 1974, a position he would hold for six seasons. After moving on into private business following his tenure at helm of the Texans, Patton would go on to serve on the SPC Board of Regents in 1994, a position he held until his death in July of 2007, capping off a 23-year tenure as a student-athlete, coach and member of the Board of Regents for South Plains College.

The Texan Club Scramble was proud to name Dennis Patton as the face and honoree of its tournament in recent years, honoring a man who dedicated his life to the betterment of South Plains College and its student-athletes.

South Plains College would like to send a sincere thank you to everyone who made this year's tournament a great success and congratulate our 2019 champions, Derrick Boggs and Abrian Gonzales.
