Texans ranked No. 2 in latest NJCAA men's basketball poll

LEVELLAND — Sitting at 14-1 on the year and a perfect 3-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, the South Plains College men's basketball team moved to No. 2 in the NJCAA Div. I men's basketball poll on Tuesday.

South Plains has won nine of its last 10 with and have three wins over teams currently ranked in the top 25, including No. 9 Salt Lake and two wins over No. 19 Seward County. The Texans recently captured the 2018 Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout title over the Christmas break, defeating Salt Lake 89-85 in the semi-finals before downing Seward County 72-64 in the title game.

The Texans would eventually drop their first game of the season 88-86 against Scottsdale on Dec. 31 but bounced back with a conference win over Howard College 68-62 on Monday at the Texan Dome. South Plains will return to the hardwood on Thursday when they travel to Roswell, NM to take on New Mexico Military Institute at 6:30 p.m. MST before returning home to take on New Mexico Junior College on Monday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
