HOBBS, N.M. - South Plains College competed in their second cross country meet of the season Saturday, sweeping the men's and women's team titles at the New Mexico JC Invitational held at Harry McAdams State Park in Hobbs.
The Lady Texans dominated the women's race by posting a perfect score of 15 points, while the Texans also comfortably won the men's race.
Sophomore Darroneshia Lott
led the way for the SPC women, winning the 5,000-meter race by more than one minute by posting a time of 18 minutes, 36.10 seconds.
The rest of the Lady Texans finished in a steady stream claiming third through eighth place. Desreen Montague

The Texans took three-of-the-top-four spots in the men's race and was led by Trey Quick
. Quick was the second athlete to cross the line, finishing with a time of 27:35.18 and was followed by Brandon Bernal
(27:57.87) and Marco Arias

(28:43.39) took seventh, eighth, and ninth places, respectively.
Also competing for the Texans were Jonathan Harrold
(29:22.01) in 11th; Anthonio Mascoll

(30:04.10) in 13th; and Braydon Villarreal
(30:16.01) in 14th.
The Texan and Lady Texan cross country teams will return to action Oct. 6 when they host the first of two consecutive home competitions that will feature races ranging from junior high, high school, and college competition.
After hosting another home meet Oct. 13, South Plains will enter their post season schedule with the Region 5 championships on El Paso on Oct. 20 before travelling to Ina, Ill. for the NJCAA cross country championships Nov. 10. On Nov. 17, South Plains will host the NJCAA Half-Marathon championships and SPC Fun Run at the Mallet Events Center to complete their fall season.
