Printable FormatSTEPHENVILLE, Texas - The 2011-12 season came to an end for the South Plains College Rodeo teams as they wrapped up competition at the Tarleton State University Rodeo with one competitor in the evening's final round of action.
Sophomore
Kelli Kindig was the lone SPC athlete qualifying for Saturday evening's short round after posting a time of 6.9 seconds during the performance Friday night. The time was tied for second best as the competitors entered Saturday's final, giving Kindig 45 points.
Kindig turned in a time of 8.7 seconds in Saturday's final round tied for eighth best and she wound up eighth overall in the competition with a total of 48.33 championship points.
Though Kindig was the only representative of South Plains in the final, Texan and Lady Texan athletes turned in other impressive performances. Competing in the same round as Kindig,
Sarah Walker and Laramie Wing's times of 7.9 and 8.4 seconds put them in contention for a spot in the final. When all was said and done, however, they missed the cut-off of 7.7 seconds.
Keyla Kothman just missed the cut-off of 3.5 seconds in the breakaway roping with a time of 3.6 seconds attained during Saturday morning's slack.
Kelsee Watkins also turned in a time of 4.3 seconds. Kindig, meanwhile, recorded a time of 3.3 seconds but was a little quick out of the gate and was assessed a 10 second penalty for breaking the barrier.
In calf roping,
Murphey Black's time of 11.6 seconds was just short of the 10.3 seconds it took to make Saturday's final.
Asa Daugherty also recorded a time of 14.0 seconds.
With the season now concluded, the SPC Rodeo teams will not compete again until the 2012-13 season begins in September.
