AUSTIN, Texas - Freshman Darroneshia Lott pulled even with the pack after the first quarter-mile of the women's 1,500-meter run and took the lead soon after during the second day of the 85th annual Texas Relays Thursday night at Mike A. Myers stadium. Lott would go on to claim the first Texas Relays title of the weekend for the SPC track and field teams, cruising to a 21/2 second victory with a time of 4 minutes, 32.49 seconds to highlight an impressive day for the Texan and Lady Texan track teams.

Janeil Bellille and Sparkle McKnight began competition in the preliminaries of the women's 400 meter hurdles. Both easily advanced to Saturday's final with Belille (57.61) clocking the second fastest time overall out of the seventh section. McKnight (58.98) finished second in the eighth section to enter Saturday's 12:15 p.m. final with the fourth quickest time.

Marques Atkinson just missed his season best time of 53.13 seconds, turning in a performance of 53.33 seconds in the men's 400 meter hurdles. Atkinson finished with the fourth best time of the preliminary round and has qualified for the final to be run during Saturday's afternoon session that begins with the women's 400 hurdles at 12:15 p.m.

After passing an opening height of 16-00.75, K'Don Samuels cleared 16-06.75 in the pole vault on his second attempt. Samuels then had several near attempts at his season best height of 17-00.75 attained last week in El Paso, but was unable to make a clearance to finish in a 10-way tie for fourth place.

The Texan and Lady Texan track teams will have a full slate of athletes competing Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the women's 4x100 meter relay.  The meet will also be available live on the Longhorn Network.
