LEVELLAND - The No. 1 ranked South Plains College Texans began the game with a 17-3 scoring run and had little trouble taking care of Frank Phillips College the rest of the way as they cruised to a 106-62 victory over the Plainsmen Thursday evening at the Texan Dome. South Plains College has been the top-ranked team in the NJCAA since January 24 and improves their record to 25-0 overall and 10-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC).
After the hot start, South Plains soon sent their starters to the bench. All but sophomore Stanton Kidd never returned to the game. The Texans led 63-17 by halftime.

Derrell Edwards came off the bench to lead all scorers with 18 points, making 6-of-10 shots from the field including 4-of-6 from beyond the 3-point line. Freshman Anthony Walker made 8-of-11 shots from the field - including a couple highlight reel dunks - and finished with his first double-double as a Texan with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Malcolm Miller had a hot hand while playing only 12 minutes, finishing with 14 points. Terrence Durham and Corey Spence combined for 15 assists to fill in nicely for starting point guard Devonte Smith.

The undefeated Texans are set to play again inside the friendly confines of the Texan Dome when they host New Mexico Junior College on Monday, February 20. The T-Birds fell to the Texans January 26 after Marshall Henderson nailed a last second 3-pointer in the corner in overtime to lift the newly No. 1 ranked Texans to a 79-78 win (click here for recap/highlights).

New Mexico (19-7, 7-3) defeated No. 12 Odessa 72-71 in overtime Thursday in Hobbs, N.M.

Mike Mamantov and Ameriprise Financial will be hosting a VIP dinner for South Plains College employees. Additionally, one employee will win a monetary award in a drawing that will take place at halftime of the Texan game.

South Plains' game versus the T-Birds is scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. tip-off and live video can be accessed at www.spctexans.com. KLVT 1230 AM will carry audio of the game over the radio and can also be accessed at www.klvtradio.com with KLVT's Michael Wiiest calling the courtside action.
