FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sophomore Keri Emanuel broke the school record and the women's long jump and several other SPC athletes earned season or career best to cap-off a successful first day at the Tyson Invitational.

Emanuel's school record came when the leap on her fourth attempt was measured at 19-09.75, nipping the record previously held by Erynn Young by just over an inch. Emanuel now owns both indoor and outdoor records and she has cleared 20-feet outdoors.

Three Lady Texans competing in the women's 400 meter dash set season or personal bests in the first event SPC competed in.

Running on her future track for the first time, Sparkle McKnight ran a season best in the 400 meter dash and just missed her career best when she posted a time of 53.78 seconds, placing ninth overall. Texas A&M signee Janeil Bellille did turn in a new personal best time as she crossed the finish line 13th overall in 54.41 seconds. Amoy Blake's time of 55.96 seconds was good for 34th in the event.

The Texan 400 meter dash participants saw similar success as Bralon Taplin and Alistair Moona each turned in their quickest times of the year and Tyler Daniel Harper finished just short of a new season best.

Taplin finished second in the fourth section and 10th overall with his time of 47.09 seconds. Competing in the fifth-of- 16 sections, Harper crossed the line first with a time of 47.22 seconds, good for 12th overall. Moona narrowly missed winning section six and his time of 47.61 seconds was 16th best overall. All heats were competing against time.

In the men's 60 meter dash, Trevorvano Mackey (6.86) and Shavez Hart were the first two athletes left out of the semi-final scheduled for 6:10 p.m. Friday evening as their times were the 17th and 18th quickest of the evening.

Fresh off his school record tying performance one week ago, freshman Jarvis Gotch was invited to compete in the championship section of the long jump and finished sixth overall, just off his season best with a best jump of 24-07.75.

South Plains will begin the second and final day of the Tyson Invitational when Emanuel and Gotch compete in the men's and women's triple jump at 11 a.m. The first SPC running event is the men's 800 meter run at 11:30 a.m. The men's 4x400 relay team will conclude the meet against some of the best competition the NCAA has to offer in the collegiate invitational that will be run at 7:24 p.m. during the USATF Classic.

The men's 4x400 relay will be broadcast on tape delay Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN 2.
